Vintage Turkish Prayer Rug, Anatolian Double Mihrab Carpet
About the Item
52968 vintage Turkish Prayer rug, Anatolian Double Mihrab carpet. Effortless beauty and soft, bespoke vibes meet minimalist French Country Cottage style in this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish prayer rug. The khaki-beige antique washed field features a double mihrab design with repeating geometric botanical pattern composed of curled ram's horn motifs. Stepped edges from the cut-out field create inconspicuous corner spandrels. It is enclosed with a Elibelinde motif border flanked with an inner and outer rectilinear rosette and running water guard border. Though deceptively simple, this vintage Turkish prayer rug is steeped in Anatolian history. Derived from the virility of the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the centre. Emanating timeless appeal and inimitable warmth in subdued colors, this vintage Oushak rug is the answer to sophisticated, upscale design furnishings with a calming ambiance. Perfect for a prayer room, intimate parlor, small sitting room, grand foyer, designer entry, study, studio, den, walk-in closet, stair landing, alcove, mudroom, entryway, bedroom, private library, private Chambers, living room, front room, wine cellar, conservatory, drawing room, trophy room, game room, music room, masters retreat, royal suite, executive suite, formal vestibule, or hotel lobby.
