Model WB3838 Armchair, Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen for Willy Beck, 1965

About the Item

A black lounge chair designed by the Danish design duo Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen, and produced by master cabinet-maker, Willy Beck, in Denmark during the 1950s. Larsen and Bender Madsen began designing together in 1947, having met whilst studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Professor Kaare Klint. Together, Larsen and Bender Madsen produced approximately 300 furniture designs, which are characterised by a simple, functional and elegant aesthetic that the chair retains. The chair is upholstered with high-quality black leather that runs across the entire base, and features a loose feather-filled cushion. Standing on four solid rosewood legs, the lounge chair is stately in its proportions, with the bold curves of the design creating an overarching impression of fullness, whilst the distinctive angular arms provide a touch of playfulness.
