Pair of 19th Century French Louis XVI Carved Walnut Winged Armchairs
About the Item
Complete your formal living room or den with this elegant pair of antique armchairs. Created in France, circa 1880, the large, classic bergeres stand on carved tapered and fluted legs over a bombe apron. Each wide and rounded back features very fine details including a carved eagle figure at the pediment flanked by two columns topped with carved sphere finials on both sides. Each chair is dressed with a yellow silk fabric decorated with vase and garland motifs, and a deep and comfortable seat with a removable down cushion embellished with a wreath and floral decor. The winged armrests are highly decorated with detailed acanthus leaf motifs. The colorful fauteuils are in fair condition, and adorn a rich walnut patina complemented with an classy upholstery. Significant wearing to the fabric on the seat and back. Needs to be recovered. see photos
