20th Century Ignazio Gardella Sofa mod. Digamma for Gavina Metal&Fabric, 1950s

About the Item

Ignazio Gardella (1905-1999) was an Italian architect, engineer and designer. His long professional career produced an enormous number of projects and achievements. Among the first buildings may be mentioned the Antitubercular Dispensary in Alessandria. He received numerous awards, including: the Olivetti National Prize for Architecture (1955), the Gold Medal of the President of the Republic to the Benemeriti della Scuola, della Cultura e dell'Arte (1977), the Leone d'oro alla carriera from the Venice Biennale (1996). Gardella's architecture always maintains a composure that could be described as classical, both from the extreme refinement of detail, and from his control of the overall design of the building and architectural space. He was also one of the founders of Azucena, together with Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua, in 1947. Here we have a sofa with metal and enameled steel frame with brass supports and upholstered in fabric, perfect for your living room. Very good condition, fully original. Ready to be shipped. Original Upholstery. Biography: Catalogo originale; G. Gramigna, Repertorio 1950- 80, Mondadori, 1985; A. Branzi, M. De Lucchi, Il design italiano degli anni 50, RDE, 1985; AA. Located in London, England
Ignazio Gardella (1905–1999) was an Italian architect and designer known for his significant contributions to the modernist and rationalist movements in architecture and design. The Rationalist architectural movement emphasized functionality, simplicity, and the use of new materials. His work often featured clean lines, geometric forms, and an emphasis on the integration of interior and exterior spaces. One of Gardella's most famous works is the Casa alle Zattere, a residential building in Venice designed in the late 1940s. This building is considered a masterpiece of modernist architecture and showcases his innovative approach to space and materials. He also designed the Olivetti showroom in Milan in 1957, which is another iconic example of his architectural style. We have an example of an "L" sofa, wooden frame...
