Chinese Red Lacquer Drum Stool, c. 1900
About the Item
This low drum stool was hand-carved from solid wood by Qing dynasty artisans over two centuries ago. Drum-form stools such as this were traditionally used in gardens and outdoor pavilions where upper class scholars read, wrote, discussed antiques and art and, in general, developed their inner sensibilities. This drum boasts a beautiful faux shagreen red lacquer exterior, becoming the center of attention in any room. Today, the stone drum anchors interiors as a side table, display pedestal, or statement piece.
