19th Century French Louis XIII Carved Oak Parquet Top Two-Door Buffet
About the Item
This elegant antique buffet was crafted in southwest France, circa 1850. Built of oak, the cabinet stands on front bun feet over a intricately carved bottom plinth. The cabinet features a pair of doors decorated with high relief crest motifs on raised panels, and flanked with thick hand carved barley twist columns on each side decorated with acanthus leaves at the base and floral rosette medallions at the shoulders. Opening the cabinet, it reveals a center shelf for ultimate storage; the facade is further dressed with two drawers decorated with carved foliage motifs. The top with recessed corners is dressed with beautiful parquetry work. The heavily carved Louis XIII buffet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich blonde walnut patina throughout. Place the buffet in a den or entry for extra storage and surface space. 2 keys included.
