19th Century Louis XV Style Side Cabinet in the Manner of J-E Zwiener

About the Item

A Fine Louis XVth Style Meuble a Hauteur D'Appui In the Manner of J-E. Zwiener Constructed in Bois Violette, with well executed floral inlays, and having extensive gilt bronze mounts of exceptional quality. Rising from swept legs, shod with gilt bronze sabots; the cabinet of bombe form, having a single lockable door, enclosing a shelved interior; over a Fleur de Peche marble platform. German born Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener worked in Paris at the Rue de la Roquette from 1880 until 1895. An exhibitor and medal winner at the International Expositions, he was noted for his faithful renditions of furniture of the ancien regime with the enhancement of sinuous bronze mounts, a feature our piece exhibits.

Constructed in a well-figured Honduras mahogany, with carved highlights; rising from cabriole leg 'ball and claw' feet, with acanthus carving at the knees, with swept and carved corner blocks; over, a running 'egg-and-dart moulding with a central leaf carved cartouche centred about a scallop shell, are two lockable glazed doors, with astragals delineating fifteen panes enclosing a shelved interior; surmounted by a pierced swan neck pediment with paterae teminals set about a turned finial, circa 1910.
