Rosewood Mini-Bar, Torbjørn Afdal, Bruksbo Tegnekontor, Norway, 1970's
About the Item
Designed between the end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s by the designer Torbjørn Afdal, this rosewood case reveals all its splendor when, once its little key is turned, it becomes possible to transform it into a delicate, ingeniously arranged mini-bar .
Stocky, playful but refined, this cubic piece of furniture is teeming with details. We will notice the woodworking joints on the door, the choice of brass for the hinges blending wonderfully with its rosewood color, or the small green carpet which accommodates whisky, cognac and rum of at least 20 years of age, Let’s make it clear!
Finally, if the country of a thousand fjords only housed barely 4 million inhabitants at the beginning of the 1970s, it nonetheless remains a nation wishing to assert its identity in terms of design compared to its other Scandinavian neighbors. On the label placed under the furniture we can read "Bruksbo". This is the design office responsible for at least 20% of the production of Norwegian furniture in the 1960s. They imagined and designed the furniture which would then be produced by various companies, such as carpentry here. Haug (Haug Snekkeri).
Even if the production of Norwegian designer furniture seems confidential compared to that of the Danish, the quality has nothing to envy of that of its counterpart. This particularity means that today beautiful Norwegian pieces, less common on the 20th century design market, remain rather unusual.
