Early 20th C Federal Style Hand Carved Mahogany Piecrust Edge Tilt-top Tea Table

About the Item

This is a magnificent Federal Style (or Federal Revival) early 20th century bench made solid mahogany Piecrust Edge Tilt-Top Tea Table with birdcage action. The top is exceptionally hand carved with fans and shells along the piecrust outsaide edge of the top of the table. The table can rotate on the birdcage action or it can tilt (please see illustration with unusual handmade locking wedge made from mahogany as opposed to the traditional brass catch). The pedestal is intricately and beautifully hand carved with acanthus leaves in bas relief continuing down the cabriole legs and terminating in modified hairy paw feet. There is one old scar (illustrated) and one tiny professional edge repair (also illustrated) mentioned purely for condition accuracy. Otherwise the table is in superb, age-appropriate condition.
