German Baroque Centre Table with Marquetry Inlays

About the Item

Produced in Germany during the early 17th Century, this table is Baroque in style and period. The table stands on four rectilinear legs, their square profiles tapering from top to bottom. The legs are connected by a bottom tier and support a tabletop that dramatically overhangs its apron. The tabletop, the top of the bottom tier, and the sides of the legs are richly decorated with marquetry designs wrought from walnut and maple inlays, amongst other woods. The marquetry depicts foliage in autumnal shades of brown and rusted red, as well as dark green, and also portrays a rearing horse at the centre of the tabletop.
