Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted writing desk by Poteau
French, late 19th century
Size: Height 78cm, width 180cm, depth 87cm
This beautiful Louis XV style writing desk is raised on four cabriole leg, each finished with a gilt bronze paw foot and mounted at the top with a gilt bronze female figure, a decidedly Rococo touch. The wide, leather topped desk surface is bounded by a gilt bronze moulding, while the apron below is inset with three drawers, each drawer finished with parquetry and mounted with gilt bronze.
The lock plate of the largest drawer is stamped ‘E. POTEAU Rue de Turenne, 59. PARIS’.
