Oscar Reutersvärd, Impossible Figures, Color Lithograph, Framed

About the Item

Oscar Reutersvärd, Impossible figures Lithography Number 101/190 The work is signed by the artist and individually numbered Work dimensions 51/41 The work is framed Oscar Reutersvärd (1915 - 2002) was a Swedish graphic designer who pioneered the art of 3D drawings in 1934. He is the creator of Impossible Figures, which may initially seem feasible but cannot be physically constructed. On the face of they appear normal, but they cannot be reproduced in three dimensions because the perspective is somehow distorted and therefore violate the laws of trigonometry. He is sometimes referred to as the father of an impossible figure. Reutersvärd studied at several painting schools. He was, among others, a student of Otte Sköld and Otto G Carlsund in Stockholm and Paris, and studied with Fernando Léger. In 1953 he became an associate professor at Stockholm University and then professor of art history with art theory at Lund University in 1964. In total, Reutersvärd produced over 2,500 different drawings. He created not only paintings, but also sculptures in which chains and other objects point towards the sky. He created his figures with India ink on Japanese rice paper, drawing by hand, without a ruler or other mechanical device. He usually used Japanese perspective, in which all parallel lines remain parallel and do not meet at points of visual convergence. The wobbly lines created during the ten-hour train ride between Stockholm and Lund are visible in some of his photos. The engravings were often colored with chalk. His works are exhibited in many museums. Reutersvärd's achievements were honored in 1982 with a series of three Swedish postage stamps. The stamps were made by Czesław Słania based on Reutersvärd's watercolors. Work in original vintage condition. The frame shows minor signs of use.

  • Joan Miró, Agora I, Color Lithograph, 1971, Framed
    By Joan Miró
    Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
Joan Miró, Agora I, 1971 Color lithography Work signed by the artist Working dimensions 71/51 Framed work Lithographic poster for an exhibition of artists represented by Galeria Maeght at the Musée d'Art Moderne Strasbourg in 1971. Poster by Joan Miró, a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramicist. The surrealist master is one of the most important Spanish artists of the 20th century and one of the greatest artists of contemporary art. A picture is made of brushstrokes, just as a poem is made of words. - Joan Miro Miró's works are interpreted as belonging to surrealism, as an expression of a return to childhood and as sandboxes for the subconscious. The Miró style consists of vivid colors combined with simplified forms, reminiscent of drawings of a small child. Initially, Miró created in various fashionable styles, for example, Fauvist and Cubist. In 1920 he traveled to Paris several times, and a year later he settled there permanently. He met Pablo Picasso, Vasily Kandinsky and many other outstanding artists. In 1924 he joined the surrealists of André Breton's circle, but - despite the fact that he worked under their influence - he remained on the outskirts of this trend, maintaining the position of an outsider. Influenced by Surrealist poets and writers, he began to develop his own style: a map of weightless colored signs and poetic forms that evoke both the seemingly naive freshness of invention and the exuberant and baroque Catalan...
