Gary Erbe (b. 1944) New York/New Jersey painter - Oil on canvas titled "All Creatures." The painting is in excellent condition and presents in a great frame. Signed G. Erbe lower left and also signed and titled on the verso. Painting measures: 14" H x 18" W. Frame measures: 22 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W. GARY T. ERBE, a self-taught painter was born in 1944 in Union City, New Jersey where he maintained his studio from 1972-2006. In 1967, Erbe discovered Trompe l’oeil painting and its masters. It was then that he recognized his particular place. Erbe has exhibited extensively since 1970 with solo exhibitions at Museums and galleries throughout America, Asia and Europe and is in the permanent collection of many institutions including The Phillips Collection, DC; Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, PA; Terra Foundation for American Art, IL; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, AK; Colby College Museum of Art, ME; Brandywine River Museum, PA; The Brinton Museum, WY; Montclair Art Museum, NJ; The Heckscher Museum of Art, NY; Phoenix Art Museum, AZ; The Butler Institute of American Art, OH; Reading Public Museum, PA, amongst others.

Lauderdale, Fla.” Titled on the verso “The Little White House by the Sea - North Ft. Lauderdale Beach - Fla.” Signed on the verso “Carl Brandien 1944. The Vagabond Artist” Beautiful Ft. Lauderdale Beach Scene by the iconic NY/Florida artist and world traveler. Carl Brandien (1886-1965), and his wife Kathleen first came to Ft. Lauderdale from New York City in 1941. They loved the area and moved there permanently two weeks before Pearl Harbor. Brandien, who called himself the vagabond artist, traveled with Kathleen around the world on a quest for life, and to discover and paint beauty. Brandien did commercial illustration for many magazines including Life. He opened his Little Studio at 716 E. Las Olas, in Ft. Lauderdale in 1942. The Miami Herald, January 16, 1944, pictured Brandien and his wife. “With inspiration from the war and the fight for democracy, Carl Brandien, America’s ‘Vagabond artist,’ here with his versatile British-born wife, Kay, at their Fort Lauderdale studio, believes that American artists are destined to produce the finest art of all times…Now hanging at the White House is his painting ‘Stars and Stripes’ depicting the U. S. War fleet at anchor in the Hudson, with brilliant display of searchlights against the night sky… ‘I have visited 45 countries over a stretch of 25 years, always seeking to understand the meaning of life and then endeavoring to interpret it through my art.” At the end of World War II Brandien closed his Lauderdale studio and returned to New York and Gloucester, Massachusetts, but couldn't stay away from Florida. The frame is 42 x 30 inches. The painting is signed lower right and also signed and dated on the verso, 2006. The title is seen on the verso on the label: "Escape" Artist John Burton (b. 1966) is a graduate of Arizona State University and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. The artist won the top award at the 2003 Oil Painters of America show and competition in Taos, New Mexico and an award of excellence at the 2004 show. Burton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but moved to Los Altos, California at the age of two. Burton always wanted to be an artist and when he was in fifth grade he broke his back and spent his recovery drawing and sketching. He attended Arizona State University but, feeling the art program was lacking he earned a degree in business and marketing. He went on to work as a graphic artist for six years after graduation.
