Original vintage World War Two recruitment poster - The Airborne forces of the British Army consist of parachute troops and glider-borne troops of all arms of the service - featuring a modernist design by the notable British graphic designer Abram Games (Abraham Gamse; 1914-1996) depicting a dramatic illustration of a soldier wearing military uniform and helmet holding a gun with silhouette images of parachute drops and glider planes above an aerial view of fields on the land below in the background, the application information text including rates of pay and conditions of service with the Pegasus Flash logo below - Officers and men in any Regiment or Corps (except RAC) who are medically fit may apply for transfer to a parachute or glider-borne unit of the Airborne Forces... Formed in 1940 the British Airborne Forces initially consisted of a parachute and a glider unit becoming the Parachute Regiment / Paras in 1942; this airborne division took part in numerous operations in Europe and North Africa during the war and were nicknamed Red Devils by the German forces. In 1941/42 the symbol designed by Major Edward Seago of the mythical warrior Bellerophon armed with a spear riding a winged horse Pegasus was adopted for this new military force. Horizontal.
