Additional Details: Jugend is a weekly artistic and literary magazine created by Georg Hirth and published between 1896 and 1940 in Munich. One of the particularities of this periodical is that the cover changes with each issue. The designer thereby illustrates the concept of youth (Jugend in German). Early artists included: Otto Eckmann, Ernst Barlach, Lovis Corinth, and of course Josef Rudolf Witzel. Jugend is linked to the term “Jugendstil”, which corresponds to the German expression of Art Nouveau. Josef Rudolf Witzel, is a German artist, both painter, illustrator and decorator, and one of the pioneer poster artists of Art Nouveau style in his country.
