This etching by Albert Artigue after the oil on canvas by Esteban Murillo. Published in the french art magazine « L' Art » ( 1875-1907) in 1880. Engraved in the 19 century by the French artist Albert Artigue. He is known for his engravings, paintings and illustrations. Bartolomeo Estéban Murillo is an artist born in Seville in 1617 and died in 1682. He is considered the embodiment of the Andalusian soul. Murillo is known as the leader of the Seville School. Murillo was part of the Sevillian culture and drew his inspiration from his native city throughout his life. Alongside the religious works, we will discover numerous genre scenes. Scenes that depict Murillo's contemporary Seville. He grew up in the picturesque district of Santa Cruz. Murillo's paintings convey a touching realism that makes us understand that despite the poverty, Seville was a city full of life, gentleness and charm. A city with an important artistic centre that we find in this engraving by Albert Artigue.
