Early 20th Moroccan wedding Wall hanging Hiti with Moorish arches

About the Item

Very special wallhanging from Morocco. The motifs are inspired from the Moors. The colors are still as vibrant as in the old days. These hangings are used when there is a wedding and are called a ‘hiti’ or ‘haiti’. handmade by Bedouins. After all these years there is wear and tear but it’s adding to the beauty of this piece. Essentially, which is used to decorate the walls behind the divans that line meeting halls (majlis) on ceremonial occasions, especially weddings. A hiti is normally composed of a series of panels, each with a design in the shape of an arch (qus). Above the arches there is a band with one or two rows of geometric patterns reminiscent of a balustrade.
