Jade Brooch is Translucent Art Deco πerfection
About the Item
It's a carving of peaches; symbolic of longevity. But look at those carved lines on the upper-left quadrant. Ever see a peach with lines like that? What makes this carved jadeite jade brooch so magnificent is the artistic license on full display. The lapidary artist who created this piece nearly a century ago, perfectly -just absolutely perfectly- captured the design aesthetic of the era with those lines: streamlined, flowing; curvilinear.
The succulent jade is a blend of near-colorless and apple green It measures 53.13mm x 40/72mm and is 5.37mm thick. The handmade silver frame follows the contors of the jade carving and there is no bail; no accommodation was ever made for this to be worn as a pendant. Somebody decided: this is a brooch, period. That's fine with me. I think a jade brooch is the very definition of glamour. Especially one carved as beautifully as this one was carved sometime in the 1920s or 1930s.
This rare and magnificent brooch ships with a certificate from Stoner Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
