A large emerald and clear paste 'lizard' brooch, c 1900.
About the Item
A large striking sterling silver 'lizard' brooch, in serpentine form, set with old cut emerald and clear pastes, and a ruby paste 'eye', from the early 1900s. it is most probably made in England. It is softly gilded on the reverse, whist the front is plain silver. A silver 'safety chain' is attached to prevent this creature falling off!
Wonderful on the lapel of a jacket, or placed strategically on a coat or dress, it is a classic design.
There is a larger 'lizard' brooch recently listed in this shop that would serve as the perfect and very dramatic companion piece to this, when worn together (see the attached photos below). If it was decided to purchase both together, a price could be negotiated for the pair.
