Victorian Convertible Pendant Brooch in 18Kt Certified 9.12 Ctw Zircon Diamonds

About the Item

Gorgeous piece from the late Victorian-Edwardian Era. Exceptional and impressive antique piece of jewelry, created in England during the late Victorian Period (1837-1901), circa 1880's. This brooch-pendant was assembled in a cushion shape, with exceptional attention to details. Carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with accents on top in silver for the settings of the diamonds. It is suited at the reverse with a hinged pin and a hook, to be wear, either as a brooch or a pendant. Mounted in the center, with a cushion faceted cut (11.5 x 10.2 x 7.11 mm) of an extremely rare natural transparent vivid green zircon of 7.54 carats. This gemstone is surrounded by two line-rows, impeccable mounted with 52 calibrated old European rose-cut diamonds, with a combined weight of 1.58 carats, F color, VS-2 clarity. Has a total weight of 6.8 Grams and a measurements of 23.5 mm by 22 mm. Green zircons, are exceptionally rare and is the rarest color of the Zircon family. They are found in shades from yellowish-green to deep olive green. Notable sources for Green Zircons are Sri Lanka and Madagascar. They form as the result of natural radiation in a process known as metamictization. Interestingly, zircon is actually rarer than diamond, despite its lengthy history as a diamond replacement. However, mimicry can only get you so far. Zircon is December’s birthstone, providing a lot of color choice for December birthdays. Zircons come in many colors, but blue is perhaps the most popular and expensive. However, almost all blue zircon is heat treated. Green is the rarest natural color. The Victorian, era is one of the most influenced and influential periods of antique jewelry. This period is defined by the British monarch, in this case, Alexandrina Victoria, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as the Empress of India, years 1837-1901. There are 3 sub-periods within this era. First, the early, Romantic period, which is soaked in traditions, natural motifs in gold and silver, clear stones only being worn during the day and colored gems by night. The second being the Grand or mourning period, which coincides with the death of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert the consort, who died in December of 1861. This period included large, dark, somber, dramatic jewelry, with a lot of black onyx, jet wood, amethyst, garnet and gold. This lasted until 1880's, when the aesthetic period of jewelry began. The Late or third stage of the Victorian period, use more complex and feminine motifs, returning to the natural, including many floral and celestial designs, with more decadent gemstones, lasting until the turn of the century. The Victorian era of jewelry includes many movements found in other countries, including revivals such as the Etruscan the Roman and the Egyptian as well as the Art Nouveau, Liberty style and Arts and Crafts design movements which lead into the beginning of the twentieth century. Collateral: This piece is accompanied by an AGL certificate report number 1113020, stating the central gemstone is a natural green zircon with no evidence of heat or clarity enhancing.
