Art Deco 1920s 18K Gold &Platinum Mother of Pearl & Sapphire Dress Stud Set
About the Item
A set of Art Deco sapphire, mother of pearl, platinum, and yellow gold cufflinks and dress buttons, each comprising one round cut blue sapphire, and a carved panel of mother of pearl, platinum, an 18 karat yellow gold.
This glamorous gentleman’s dress set comprises 4 dress studs, a pair of collar studs, and a pair of cufflinks. Each piece is formed as a carved panel of mother of pearl, octagonal in shape, with a carved swirling pattern. At the centre of each mother of pearl panel, is a bezel set round cut blue sapphire. The pale, cornflower blue sapphires are held within millegrain edged bezel settings. The mother of pearl panel is held withing a platinum setting, adorned with ‘stitch’ motifs. The collar studs unscrew from the fittings for easy use. A delightful dress set, presented in a fitted case. The dress set is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The collar studs would originally have attached one’s collar to one’s shirt, when shirts and collars were bought as separate pieces. The dress studs would have acted as ‘buttons’ for a dress shirt, and the cufflinks used to fasten the dress shirt at the cuff.
The cufflink and dress button faces measure 12.3mm high, 12.3mm wide, and 3.3mm deep (excluding fittings).
The collar stud faces measure 7.5mm high, 7.5mm wide, and 3mm deep (excluding fittings).
