Italia Liberty 'Art Nouveau' Cufflinks in 18 Karat Yellow Gold
About the Item
An exceptional pair of double-sided cufflinks in the Italia Liberty taste, as the Art Nouveau movement was known in Italy. The unusual, heptagonal (7-sided) faces feature black and pale green enamel borders depicting ivy vines and leaves.
These cufflinks pre-date the advent of modern Italian hallmarks indicating the city in which a jewel was made. Instead they are stamped only "ITALIA" and "K18," the latter mark indicating solid, 18K gold. It's plausible that they may have been produced in Torino, which was the center of the Italia Liberty movement in Italy, though this is only a guess.
Each of the four faces measures 16.1 mm across; together, the cufflinks weigh 9.37 grams. These cufflinks were purchased a number of years ago from Fred Leighton in New York. They're charming, eminently wearable and highly collectible.
