About the Item
Pair 18th Century Spanish "Salmantinos" Rose-Cut Diamond and Gold Earrings. Gold and Diamond earrings, which are a variation on the Pendeloque drop, Circa 1760 - 1780. (Wearable Art - Museum Piece).
Perfect length, they are in-keeping with the Spanish style. What started out as heavy on the lobe has evolved into much lighter and easy-to-wear styles, such as these version of thin gold sheet with repoussé, foliate patterns. There were also shell and scroll motifs, as well as Spanish cannetille work, which featured delicate lacy floral patterns crafted from gold wire.
Hand made in 18k gold and diamonds. Original ear wires in a Lazo design, the Spanish word for bow, they are a variation on the pendeloque drop. When worn in the Spanish court, they would have been accompanied by a large ribbon shaped bodice ornament.

Materials Rose-cut diamonds, solid 18 Karat Gold (marked and tested).
Workmanship origin: Spain, probably Cordoba. Marks: a lion sergeant, punched on the back, for solid Gold.

Inlaid with rose-cut and table-cut diamonds. Superbly preserved, dating from the late 18th century (1780). A set of sparkling flat rose-cut diamonds decorates each earring along with sixteen vibrant step-cut green emeralds. They range in value from 0.15ct (6 emeralds) to 1.20ct (8 emeralds), and total approximately 10ct in both. The galleries have ornate detailing and are fitted with three droppers at the bottom with a hinge in the center to allow them to swing and dance freely. The earrings preserve its original clip hooks and are divided into three bodies, the upper one can be separated and worn independently. Size: Height 80mm (78mm inc. hooks) x Width 23mm x Depth 5.5mm. Metal: Silver/ 18ct Gold (Tested) Stones: Emeralds (Major 6.46mmx 5.38mm, approx. 1.20ct each - 10 carats total), Diamonds (approx. 4ct total).
