About the Item

This exceptionally crafted and beautiful piece of art is unlike anything you will find in the world. The artists write up on the technical aspects of the piece are below. Enamel engraving was created on a very rare ornamental lathe from 1875. Old world artisans like Faberge used these machines for their works. This is a truly impressive creation and wow piece of jewelry and objet de"art! This Red Guilloché enamel Kaleidoscope Pendant features 18k yellow gold mounts, including millgrained rims with bands of ivory-colored champlevé enamel. The eyepiece is relief-carved with an acanthus leaf motif. The optical diffuser at the far end takes the form of a rutilated quartz cabochon, while the internal optical objective consists of semi-precious natural gemstones suspended in liquid. Diameter 7/8" x 2 1⁄2" Length Design Development: I have been refining this design for many years, offering various eyepieces, rim designs, engraved patterns and of course enamel colors. I earned national recognition in 2010 as 1st Place winner of the Saul Bell Award for my submission of a gold kaleidoscope that was very much like this one. Construction: The body is made of seamless fine silver tubing which I engraved on a Straight Line Engine and then enameled. All of the gold parts for this piece were cast. The enamel rims and the smaller round eyepiece were all turned, fitted and millgrained on a lathe. The bail was first fabricated in silver, then molded and cast in 18K yellow gold. The conical portion of the eyepiece began as a lathe turned brass blank. It was relief carved with a repeating acanthus leaf motif by Amayak Stepanyan, a renowned, world-class hand engraver of knives. The brass part was then molded, cast in 18K, and joined with the other lathe-turned parts. The optical system consists of 3 components. There is an objective, a mirror system, and a light diffuser.  The objective is a short piece of stainless steel tubing with synthetic sapphire windows attached to each end. Inside a myriad of colored natural gemstones are trapped in a viscose liquid.  The mirror system was made from 3 first-surface mirrors and shrink wrap tubing  The diffuser is a nearly hemispherical rutilated quartz cabochon Techniques Employed: lathe turning engine turning guilloche enameling champleve enameling wire fabrication relief engraving casting hard soldering laser welding Chain is not included and easy to incorporate anyones personal chains on the piece. Artist Bio: Bill Brinker I’ve been passionately metalsmithing since 1971, and professionally since 1981. After 14 years as a pro custom jeweler in the Denver/Boulder area I joined Andreas von Zadora’s stable of technical specialists in 1995 as a goldsmith and enamelist. My CAD skills soon made me the Project Manager for Zadora’s most complicated and challenging commissions. Consequently I regularly collaborated with highly accomplished jewelers, setters, gemstone cutters, hand engravers, watchmakers, clockmakers and mechanical engineers, in Europe and the USA. I was the technical designer and Project Mgr for scores of Object commissions that cost over $50k to make, plus 3 major works that sold for $1M or more. Zadora’s company went bankrupt in 2008 Financier Crisis. After that I worked for Todd 2011-2015. I’ve been freelancing and developing new products since then.
