THIS IS A STUNNING BEAUX ARTS RENAISSANCE REVIVAL ART NOUVEAU 14 KARAT GOLD PENDANT OF A GRIFFIN OR DRAGON WITH A STUNNING ANTIQUE BLACK OPAL.
This is a beautiful Beaux Arts - Art Nouveau - Belle Epoque pendant in the Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1860-1890. It depicts a wonderful griffin or dragon wrapped around a magnificent fire opal cabochon. The face of the dragon is extraordinary with magnificent gold work and the tongue sticking out. The griffin holds an oval natural mined Black Opal of great beauty. The opal is a vivid vibrant opal jewel full of green, blue, yellow and orange fire. The tail of the griffin has fabulous engraved scales and wonderful form.
The overall effect of the detailed gold work, the griffin motif and the radiant fire opal in this early antique piece is truly magical.
The pendant is 14 Karat gold.
The pendant is 3/4 inch (19mm) long including the top loop and 15mm long without the loops. It is 12mm wide.
The opal is 9mm by 6mm.
