Antique Very Rare French Gilt Metal Eagle Inkwell

About the Item

Antique French gilt metal novelty inkwell in a form of the eagle. This inkwell is made circa early 20th century and it was designed in the shape of an eagle’s head and a bird feather. An eagle's head opens nicely and fit a small glass ink bottle inside. The piece is standing on two supporting legs. This beautifully made and very rare writing accessory can be a great piece to put it on your desk. Era: Early 20th century Measurements: approx. 28.5 cm wide (feather), 12 cm height ( from the base to the eagle's head) Condition: Some wear due to age, otherwise very good condition

  • Antique 18th Century Italian Brass Pricket Candlesticks
    Located in Portland, England
    A fine pair of 18th century Italian brass pricket candlesticks impressively decorated in a baroque style with knopped stems and triform bases decorated with cartouche and foliage alterations. The columns are beautifully ornated on each side with leaves and floral motifs typical of the Baroque era. The finely detailed columns stand on tripartite bases. The columns are finished with large round brass cups that have scalloped edges and 75mm tall iron prickets. In the centre of each leg there is an elegant escutcheon surrounded by scrolls and finalised with a leaf decoration. PROVENANCE: This pair of Italian candlesticks comes from the Cotswold collection, property of Mr Weil, antiques dealer who established his antiques company in 1932, during the Great Depression, creating a firm of international fame, trading in fine English furniture and antiques from showrooms in London, Bristol, Cheltenham and Broadway's Eadburgha House.     This inkwell is one of the finest examples we have had in our collection to date. Crafted by the firm 'Dreyfous' the inkwell is made from .800 purity silver, etched crystal and cranberry guilloche enamel. The square form crystal base which sits upon four scroll feet is etched with floral motifs and bordered by gilded .800 purity silver that features panels of rich cranberry guilloche enamel. The central bulbous inkwell features further guilloche enamel that is overlaid with silver garlands and a hinged lid with floral knop. To the inside of the inkwell sits what appears to be its original glass ink liner which is in lovely condition. To the inside rim of the well is engraved 'Dreyfous Paris Londres New York' which helps date the piece to between 1890 and 1920.
