Antique Victorian 1850s 18K Yellow Gold 0.53ct Diamond & Bloodstone Target Ring
About the Item
A diamond and bloodstone ring in yellow gold, comprising one old cut diamond and a ring of bloodstone, set in 18 karat yellow gold, to an 18 karat gold band.
The chunky old cut diamond is set to the centre of the ring, sparkling in the most beautiful way. The diamond is bright, white, and lively, and has great clarity and colour. The diamond is surrounded by a smooth, polished ring of bloodstone, creating a target design. The diamond and bloodstone panel are set within a porthole style setting of yellow gold, which gives this ring a truly unique nautical look that I have never come across before. The striking design gives it real presence on the hand. The shoulders have a carved, reeded design, and taper to a band of plain, polished yellow gold.
There is a personal engraving on the inside of the band, reading, “Jan’ 11 1859”, which could have been the date of an engagement, wedding, or perhaps a special birthday. The ring is in good condition, with evidence of resizing on the band. The bloodstone ring sports a chip, but due to the stone being dark green in colour and mottled with red, it isn’t noticeable when worn and is safely held in the setting. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The head of the ring measures approximately 17.5mm long and 17mm wide. The band is 2mm wide at the back.
