1.67 Carat Pink Spinel and Diamond Gold Ring
About the Item
This open modern shank ring is done in 14-karat two tone gold. The 9 VS clarity and G color diamonds sparkle in the white gold and are graduated in size to not overpower the pinkish red Spine set in yellow gold. The Diamonds have total weight of 0.50 carats.
The Spinel was cut from a parcel of rough from Morogoro in Tanzania. While Mahenge seems to be the more popular location for reddish pink Tanzanian Spinel, we bough in the past good quality of the rough from the Morogoro region, but it is generally it is a lighter pink tone and not quite as red as the material coming from Mahenge.
This trillion cut natural unheated Spinel is 1.67 carats and measured 8.3 mm and with a 10 power loupe has hard to find small inclusions, just enough to prove that it is a natural stone.
The width of the ring is 13.4 mm on top and tapers down to 5 mm. The ring size is a 10, but it can be adjusted to a larger or smaller size.
With a hardness of 8 on the mohs hardness scale, Spinels are wearer friendly. Diamond with a hardness of 10 will scratch a Spinel. It is wise to always store rings separately to avoid damage.
Spinels are probably one of the most misunderstood gemstones in the world. They were finally recognized as an individual mineral 150 years ago. Up until then they were thought to be ruby. They are actually found in all colors, in placer deposits that also contain ruby and sapphire. The single refractive, cubic octagonal crystals that are not damaged can be easily used in picking out the spinel from other materials. However broken or shattered rough requires closer inspection for positive identification. Additional identification complications came about in the 1920s when a synthetic spinel was introduced into the world markets. Some of the lab created spinel colors are not found in nature.
Spinel along with Peridot are the recognized and commercially accepted gemstones for those born in August.
