Georgian 1770s 18K Gold White Enamel Urn “In Memory of a Friend” Mourning Ring
About the Item
A Georgian white enamel and yellow gold ring, in 18 karat yellow gold, adorned with white enamel and hand painted dedication.
This beautiful piece of mourning jewellery is truly one of a kind. Centring around an oval, glazed panel, hand painted with a memorial urn in sepia tones, along with the phrase “In Memory of a Friend”. The band is enamelled in white, which was generally reserved for children and those unmarried at the time of their death. The band reads “Thos Adamson. OB: 28. Dec: 1771. Aet, 29”. From the dedication on the oval panel, it is safe to assume this ring belonged to a dear friend of Thomas Adamson. The ring is in exceptional condition, with hardly any wear to the enamel whatsoever, making this a highly rare and collectible piece. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The head of the ring measures 13.5mm long and 11mm wide. The ring rises 3mm off the hand, and the band measures 2.3mm wide at the back.
