Antique H Chawmer 18th C English Georgian Sterling Silver Double-Sided Tea Caddy

About the Item

A fine antique Georgian double-sided tea caddy. In sterling silver. By Henry Chawmer of London, England. Each side of the caddy has an engraved wreath cartouche below a small keyhole. The top and bottom of the body are decorated with engraved linework around the circumference. The hinged lids are also decorated with engraved patterns around the circumference, and there is an integral handle in the middle. One of the lids has a slight smile (not closing entirely flush) that could be readily remedied by a silversmith. This is of course the collector's prerogative. Marked to the base with English hallmarks for Henry Chawmer, London, England, Sterling, & 1796. Simply a great George III teapot from the late 18th century! Date: 1796 Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: One of the lids has a slight smile (not closing entirely flush) that could be remedied by a silversmith. The base of the caddy has a few noticeable indentions or dents here and there. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Henry Chawmer Marks: Marked to the base with English hallmarks for Henry Chawmer, London, England, Sterling, & 1796. And struck to inside of lids. Measurements: Width: ca. 6 in.
