1928 Elgin E-1 Series, 15 Jewel, Rare Dial Offering

About the Item

Thank you for dropping by. I have a sublime offering that is Art Deco through and through. Elgin, one of the prolific early American wrist watch manufacturers. The played a significant role during the early wristwatch era. This is just an example. This is an incredible survivor from two generations ago. This 1928, one year before “The Great Depression” hung over the US like a dark angry cloud. This could be labeled a Streamline Moderne offering in 14 karat white gold filled. The case is in remarkable condition for being almost 100 years young. Elgin “Model 621” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1928. Let me share with you what makes this such a coveted treasure to own, if you are on my sight, you like vintage watches. With bias I know I offer some of the best in the market today, don’t take my word, read my reviews. Back to the Elgin, sorry I got lost for a moment. This dial is the crown jewel of this offering. It is called an Incuse Exploding dial, more specifically it is Gold Incuse Exploding Numeral Dial. This dial configuration is very hard to find, I have seen very few available. (Now is your chance, go ahead and make the decision to buy) What a treasure to own, plus, one year before America experienced financial hell! The watch measures: 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock 27MM Lug to Lug 34MM The refinished dial was completed to its original status. It has a new old stock crystal. The movement has had a comprehensive service to ensure it runs beautifully. The 16mm watch band is new, black in color with a polished stainless-steel buckle to match the watch This time piece is special, the style, the genre, the condition, the dial rarity and think about this. Wrist watches were in their infancy in 1928, arguably they were 10-12 years old when this was manufactured. It is amazing how fast the pocket watch manufacture responded to the appetite of the Americans who wanted wrist watches, not pocket watches. Welcome to Vintage Watch Corner. First a PSA (Public Service Announcement) Vintage Watch Corner was selected as the Vintage watch source to supply “period” watches (1918-1926) for a major motion picture. This picture is being filmed in Oklahoma as we speak. It is a validation of the authenticity of my restorations. What a great looking Elgin. This watch is from the late 1930’s, It is Elgin’s answer to the “waterproof” watch. The crystal has a gasket between the case and crystal, the case back has a gasket between the movement retainer ring and the case back, that by the way threads on. I love the oversized crown; it adds a distinguished look to a “functional watch. This watch was targeted for the outdoors person who wanted a watch that could withstand the elements, hence multiple gaskets and oversized crown. I love the two tone dial. It has a golden minute...

  • 1942 Lord Elgin Caliber 559 21 Jewels. Christmas 1943
    By Elgin

Approximately 1942 model 4806A. 14 karat yellow gold filled “Lord Elgin” that has had a total restoration. You know me, I have to give some history to you better understand what you are looking at. The better you are informed, the more comfortable you will feel This is a caliber 559, 21 jewels. Look at the movement, it is so clean and none of the typical oxidation that usually creeps into movements that are 70+ years you. This is what has been completed with this watch Complete movement tear down service Dial was refinished back to original status The case was hand polished to bring out the luster of gold filled NOS crystal installed The case was ultrasonically cleaned to remove years of grime Genuine 14MM Alligator dark brown band (remember it is a Lord Elgin) In 1910, the Elgin National Watch Company pioneered its first wristwatch, leading ahead of other American watch companies. Elgin watches produced many of the self-winding wristwatch movements such as 607 and 618 calibres (bumper wind), and 760 and 761 calibres (30 and 27 jewels). Elgin watches also played a role in history during World War I and World War II. In WWI, the manufacturing site workers taught repair techniques to hundreds of U.S. military soldiers. While in WWII, Elgin began to craft timepieces and other watch parts for the military. Lord Elgin Watches are often made with gold plated cases and leather straps. This collection consists of classic dress watches for men, perfect for business and formal evening occasions. These watches come in different shape cases: square, circular, and rectangular. The style of Lord Elgin watch is very elegant and refined. Interestingly, no two models look similar to each other. Since I was young I’ve been around watches of all kinds. Everything from a $20 Swiss army watch...

  • Rare 1947 Palladium / Diamond Dial 19 Jewel
    By Hamilton
    Located in Raleigh, NC
Welcome to Vintage Watch Corner, where one can find the most unusual timepieces that are sure to have stories that will never be revealed. Everyone looks at your watch and it represents who you are, your values and your personal style. Jewelry isn’t really my thing, but I’ve always got my eye on people’s watches. It is a quiet personal statement. My apologies for the long listing. I am laying the foundation for you to understand what I have listed. This is a “Palladium Cased – Diamond Dial” Hamilton from 1947. This is not your ordinary watch. Let me make one thing clear. Hamilton never sanctioned the reacasing of Hamilton movements with diamond dials and different alloys. It was done anyway. There are many varieties of Hamilton Diamond Dials with solid rose gold, solid yellow gold , solid platinum and of coursed solid palladium. You can find many platinum and gold examples, yet it is more difficult to find a Palladium example. Look at this offering very closely. If you are discerning and are looking for a distinctive watch that can be passed down generations, look no further. A Rare Palladium Hidden Lug Hamilton, with a diamond dial that is matched with Hamilton’s finest quality wristwatch movement, it doesn’t get better than that! We call that “Watch” Nirvana. This watch has lived 76 beautiful years and is looking for another place to call home! This watch is outfitted with one of Hamilton’s finest quality movements, the venerable 982M (Medallion), read below for a more detailed explanation. It is a mechanical masterpiece The 982M is virtually identical to the 982 movement, except it is finished to a higher degree of tolerances and decoration. On the back of the 982M you can see the gold "medallion" representing that this is a special movement. Considering most people would never look at the back of the watch movement - the fact that Hamilton put so much attention to detail in the fine finish work of their movements is a testament to their premier quality. Under the dial is a 19 jewel 982 Medallion movement. The 982M was introduced in 1940 and replaced the high grade 982 movement in solid gold models. The 982 and 982M are virtually identical other than the additional damascening and gold (orangish) highlights on the movement back. Hamilton touted the 982M as the height of accuracy noting its cap jewels on the escape wheel and Elinvar (“Elasticity Invariable”) hairspring. Additionally, Hamilton promoted the 982M movement as having increased durability, which predated the incabloc shock absorbing mechanism from Switzerland. Introduced in 1941 and concluded in 1951 Year 1947 Grade 982M Size 14/0 Jewels 19 Type Hunting Settings Pendant Production From 1940 Quantity 110131 Remarks Gold Medallion Introduced in 1941 and concluded in 1951 Did you know that Palladium is more rare than Platinum. As of this listing Platinum is $941.00 and Palladium is $1094…. Platinum and Palladium Differences The main differences between Platinum vs Palladium are: Platinum is its own metal, whereas palladium is part of the platinum group metals Palladium is more rare, whereas platinum engagement rings are easier to find Platinum is a heavier metal, whereas palladium rings are more lightweight Palladium jewelry often used as men’s wedding band, whereas platinum rings are often used as engagement rings All jewelers will work on platinum jewelry, but not every jeweler will work on palladium, they don’t have the expereince Palladium is more rare than platinum. But like platinum, it’s not normally found in its own deposits but in other ore bearing mines. Most palladium comes from nickel-copper mines. It was discovered by William Hyde Wollastonin 1803. The word "palladium" is derived from the name Pallos. Pallos was an asteroid discovered around this time. Most palladium is mined in Russia but it’s also found in the United States, Finland, Australia, Canada, and Zimbabwe. Because of its rarity, palladium rings aren’t easy to find. They’re less common than platinum rings. Even though palladium jewelry has been around for quite some time, people didn’t really start picking up on it within the last 20 years. My speculation is that it's largely due to the internet. Besides jewelry, palladium is used in metal instruments like dental tools and electronics.
