Midcentury Condo Kitchen & Bar

Apartment by The Residency Bureau in Seattle, WA

The two-bedroom condo was built in 1963 – just after the World’s Fair in Seattle and little had changed with this kitchen. True to kitchen design at that time, it was walled off with walnut panels and a sliding door. With homeowners who love to cook and entertain, the original kitchen needed a complete overhaul. Appliances didn’t work. Storage and counter space were lacking. The entire room was cramped and closed off from the condo (and the view). We wanted to pay homage to its MCM roots while adding in my client’s own eclectic flair. Walnut was paired with a sage green paint color, slatted wood and sliding doors to give us a nod to the past while squarely planting a foot in the future. We doubled the size of the kitchen in the process. In addition, an unused nook near the dining room was turned into a bar.
