Dale Zinkowski is a master of still life. His work, reminiscent of Golden Age Dutch still life painting, glows with light and subtle, quiet beauty. This original oil painting shows a bunch of beautifully ripe radishes on a dark ground so that their color shines. The herringbone texture of the linen this piece is painted on adds a subtle depth. This piece is framed in a beautiful warm silver frame, its overall measurements being approximately 11x14 inches. Dale Zinkowski was born in New York and his earliest memories of painting and drawing were from his Grandfather's own work, which hung throughout the home. Fascinated by the world around him, and the ability to capture fleeting moments on paper, he began to draw and paint from nature almost exclusively. ​From 1993-97, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he studied the Reilly method with both Marvin Mattelson and John F. Murray. Inspired by the techniques, and hungry for more information, he began copying from the old masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  ​When Murray moved his studio to Tucson, Arizona, Dale followed and focused his studies on the palettes, methods, and materials of artists such as Velazquez and Rembrandt.  ​In 2012, Dale attended the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, where he pushed his understanding of traditional techniques and materials even further while drawing and painting master copies in museums and painting landscapes in the countryside.  ​In 2013, Dale returned to New York City, where he immersed himself in the full-time program at Grand Central Atelier studying under Jacob Collins, Ted Minoff, Will St. John and Colleen Barry...

His humble beginnings made pursuing a career in art difficult and paradoxically necessary. Fixated on making things aesthetically pleasing, John made an extreme departure from his family life when he chose to base his life on art. Surrounded by mechanics, welders, and otherwise trade workers John had a tough time expressing his interest in a world much more utilitarian and much less expressive and impractical. With an extraordinary desire to be an artist and a grant awarded, John was able to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from the University of Hartford in 1998. While there John studied oil painting under American realist Stephen Brown. John’s first solo show took place in 2007 at the Ellen Traut Collection Gallery in Hartford, CT and was a near sell out. Provenance: Estate of the Artist. Helen Clark Oldfield was born in Santa Rosa. Her father, James E. Clark, invested in local hops farms. He was a director of the first Santa Rosa Bank. Oldfield lived at 547 Mendocino Avenue, in one of the finest custom-built homes in town. She was the oldest child of the family. They spent summers in their beach cabin at Jenner-by-the-Sea. She was a good student and graduated from DeWitt Montgomery High in Santa Rosa with college standard grades. Unfortunately, this idyllic situation tumbled down suddenly. due to a fraud scandal at the Bank, her father forfeited most of his assets in order to make good on his client's losses. At the time when her high school friends were going east to college, Oldfield followed her family to a new life of farming. She found this life frustrating as there was little time for her interests after conclusion of her daily duties. Here she developed her natural gift for sophisticated needle work.
