Pierre Cardin
Best known for creating groundbreaking fashion designs from the 1950s onward, Pierre Cardin enjoyed great success in other design fields, most notably furniture. Cardin’s chairs, cabinets, tables and other pieces share many of the keynotes of his clothing designs. They are simple, geometric, elegant and cool.
Cardin was born in a village near Venice, Italy, and raised in central France. Always interested in fashion, he left home at age 17 to train with a Vichy tailor. After the end of World War II, Cardin moved to Paris and worked for a succession of couture houses, before taking a job with Christian Dior in 1946. Cardin went solo in 1950, and quickly won attention for his novel style. Unlike Dior’s famous New Look, Cardin’s clothes de-emphasized a woman’s curves; his breakthrough pieces like the Bubble dress had, instead, a sculptural quality. In the following decade, Cardin introduced bright tunic dresses and shifts, marketed as the Space Age look and accessorized with vinyl hats and visors.
In the 1970s Cardin expanded his design work into furniture, jewelry and automobiles. (Later, licensing agreements would put Cardin’s name on goods ranging from perfume to sunglasses.) Cardin’s furniture pieces — inspired, perhaps, by the rediscovery of Art Deco design in that decade — feature simple, symmetrical forms, lacquer and figured veneer finishes, and accents in metals such as aluminum and brass.
Whether you are looking for a vintage cocktail dress or a chest of drawers to keep it in, as you will see on 1stDibs, Pierre Cardin offers an option in either that is timelessly chic.

- Vintage 1989 Yves Saint Laurent Leopard Print Cotton Twill Trench Jacket w/TagsBy Yves Saint LaurentLocated in Beverly Hills, CAChic Yves Saint Laurent leopard print cotton-twill trench jacket from the infamous Rive Gauche collection during spring-summer of 1989. Pieces from this collection are very rare and are true examples of fashion history. I adore the cuffed-sleeves and front duel pockets. The jacket features hidden buttons and a sexy back-slit. It is wearable and comfortable, yet has its own iconic elements. The best part of all is, the trench is in mint never worn condition! "In the mid-1970s the relevance of haute couture was seriously debated. The political and social upheaval of the 1960s, the emergence of a plethora of creative ready-to-wear designers, and the increasing preference for a sportswear approach to dressing as represented by American fashion were among the shifts in lifestyles and taste that appeared to sound the death knell of the calcified and elitist world of the maisons de couture. It was at this time that Yves Saint Laurent, haute couture’s preeminent practitioner, threw caution to the prevailing winds with a collection of unrivaled fantasy and luxury." - Vintage 1969 Thea Porter Couture Rare 'Samawa' Embroidered Wool Documented CoatBy Thea Porter Couture, Thea PorterLocated in Beverly Hills, CAAn ultra rare and highly coveted Thea Porter Couture ‘Samawa’ colorful woven wool coat dating back to her fall-winter 1969 collection. An example of this gorgeous garment can be found in the book 'Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic' by Laura McLaws Helms and Venetia Porter on page 60. This is a such a unique and truly iconic piece within her body of work. I adore the vibrant abstract natural yarn pattern work, which was inspired by Iraqi 'Samawa' carpets, as well as the side hemline slits that reveal a luxurious black satin lining. The rabbit fur trim is so incredibly soft and the zip-up front closure makes this piece so wearable. An almost identical coat was even featured in British Vogue's Fall 1970 issue, shot by the famous Barry Lategan. During this period, Thea Porter's clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic creations whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. Her clients, some of whom also became her friends, included Lauren Bacall, Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger, Sharon Tate, Elizabeth Taylor, and Pete Townshend. This magical garment originally sold at Giorgio’s of Beverly Hills which is less than a mile away from our boutique! A truly important museum worthy coat by the queen of the bohemian fashion...Category
