1960's Jean Louis Chantilly-Lace Black Strapless Cocktail Dress
The talented Jean Louis was born in Paris and as a young man worked at the House of Agnes-Drecoll. Later in his life, Jean Louis worked in the Hollywood movie industry and also did the private wardrobes of many star clients, including the television wardrobe for Loretta Young in 1953. It was Jean Louis who designed the infamous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress, worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962 as she sang at JFK’s birthday party.
This beautiful early 1960's little black cocktail dress is a perfect example of his genuis. The garment is fashioned in a silk-rayon with an elegant chantilly-lace sheer overlay. I love the low-cut plunge, fully-boned strapless bodice. The flirty back-bow is a wonderful accent for such a sensational dress. This is the type of dress you will reach for over and over. So beautiful and in wonderful condition!
