Beautifully Carved 19th Century Candlestick Holder
Antique Louis XV Style, Tall Wooden Candlestick (Pic Cierge)– European Poplar – Early 1800’s
This beautifully wooden candlestick was originally used for lighting. They would be placed on pieces of furniture throughout the home or carried by hand, if necessary, to light the pathway of the user. Today they are used, in addition to electrical lighting, as beautiful candlesticks. They can also be electrified and made into lamps.
This tripod base wooden candlestick has been finely hand carved with ornamentation of the Louis XV Style. Asymmetrical and stylized lily leaves, representing the Fleur de Lys, are interspersed with volutes, c-scrolls, cartouches, florets and paneled fields, all resting upon three scrolled feet. This is an exceptionally carved piece.
