French Art Deco Degue Chandelier with Geometric Peach Glass

Years ago (read: decades) I was offered this exact Degue fixture by a chap in Belgium (don't worry, it's French). I'd never seen it before and, as this was around the time that Art Deco was being "re-envisioned" (read: copied, reproduced, bastardized), I freaked, thinking it was "too damned good to be real!" Mea culpa! After refusing it I eventually realized it WAS the real thing -- that Degue fixtures had NOT been reproduced, and that I'd passed up one of the all-time greats! Arrgh. Well, a mere however many decades later I've had my revenge: Baby has come back to Daddy. And here I am offering it to YOU!! What for, mere money? Surely I can find a place for it in my own home....???!!!

Arguably these are Degue's finest "slip shades," with storybook Art Deco pyramiding, layered geometry. The metalwork is kept at a minimum, to allow the beauty of the glass to shine at its brightest; in fact one might say that this fixture is exemplary of that esthetic. You'll notice, on the other hand, that the design elements of the shade holder and canopy are first rate!

This is one of over a hundred impeccably restored Art Deco, Art Nouveau and other table lamps, chandeliers, and wall sconces awaiting you on my own website (click on "website" just under the photo of the hunter/archer on my 1stdibs home page). Better yet, visit (by appointment) my store in San Francisco, at the foot of Russian Hill. Call Jack at 415 518 2123 at least a day ahead, or email jack@decorumsanfran.com.

TITLE: French Art Deco Degue Chandelier with Geometric Peach Glass
PRICE:
CREATOR: Degué (Designer)
COUNTRY: France
CREATION DATE: Ca. 1928
MATERIALS: Solid brass with a fresh brushed nickel finish and my expert antique patina; molded, very light-pink-colored glass.
CONDITION: Entirely disassembled, replated in brushed nickel, with an antique patina to avoid that "born yesterday" look that so many other "restorers" give you. One shade has a long chip right at the top (see image number five) -- it's about 3/16 by over an inch long. HOWEVER, it's almost invisible, thank largely to my treating it with an etching solution which frosts it to make it conform with the frosted finish around it. Otherwise, "as original," and in excellent condition. Rewired and fitted with four American candelabra-based sockets, each capable of holding a 60 watt bulb, for a total of 240 watts
