Les Miserables: First Edition, Extra-illustrated
About the Item
Illustrated with 25 mounted albumen prints by Gilmer, after paintings by Gustave Brion. For many readers, the extremely popular images by Brion were the first and most enduring images of their favorite Les Miserables characters. The photographs were issued as an independent suite shortly after the first edition. This extra suite usually contains a portrait of Hugo as well, not present here. Many of the plates are signed by Brion with black ink or blue stamp.
