Art Deco Black Lacquered Wurlitzer Butterfly Piano

Sold

in 1939, Wurlitzer introduced the "butterfly" pianos, aptly named for the unique winged top design. There were variations in cabinet appointments, such as legs, music stands, and lyres. This "deluxe" version makes the ultimate Art Deco statement, with streamlined elements, including a quartet of raised banding around the body. The case is just refinished in multiple coats of hand rubbed black lacquer, creating a mirror like surface. The "wings" open to reveal a secondary ported top, decoratively cut out to allow the sound to ring out. This fine instrument has a rich, full tone and no condition issues. The matching bench has been recovered in new leather, and all metal trim elements have been newly chromed. Art Deco pianos are quite rare, as most 1920's and 1930's pianos were traditional in design.
