Centennial "Modele D'Etude of the Flame"
About the Item
In the mid-1980s the historic Statue of Liberty was in a desperate state of disrepair and approaching its centennial year. A tremendous fundraising effort between France and America started the process to restore the statue. The task of replacing the flame as close to the original form created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was given to the renowned international architect Thierry W. Despont and Swanke, Hayden & Connell.
The result of this collaboration brought about a spectacularly successful replacement of the flame and the rare opportunity to create a limited edition scale model of the flame created in the centennial year, 1986.
The model flame was almost forgotten for 28 years but fortunately the edition has recently come to the market. A limited number of the model flames are available. Please read text images 6-9 for additional historical information.
