Antique Oushak Rug

Created in the Turkish carpet-capital of Oushak, this magnificent antique carpet is an archetypical representation of a traditional garden carpet pattern. Modeled after serene courtyard gardens, this traditional carpet features a terra-cotta red fountain embellished with delicate floral chains and a formal octofoil medallion. The beautifully colored field is divided into rectilinear compartments that display a lovely range of softly oxidized hues. Broad reflecting pools decorated with angular ripples and quirky piscine motifs separate the rectilinear compartments and narrow strapwork garden paths. The exceptional borders depict symbolic cypress trees flanked by delicate floral chains rendered in a typical Turkish manner.
