ARNE JACOBSEN EGG ; FIRST YEAR PROD ; LEATHER
Arne Jacobsen designed for the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957 and produced by Fritz Hansen this example was made in the first 18 months or so of the production run and is a model 3315 as opposed to all later Eggs which are model 3317 , it has the built in seat cushion ( all subsequent chairs were sold with the seat cushion separate ) and is stamped with an "S" to the underside of the frame , if that means it was in the hotel i can't be certain . The leather is aged to a deep rich brown . The chair has condition issues obvious in the pictures , while the back of the chair is beautifully patinated and in fine condition the front suffers dessicated foam , ripples to the leather and about a 2 inch split as shown in image 6 . Realistically the chair needs to be stripped down and reupholstered or placed in the hands of a leather genius who might be able to do something with it .
