Modern French Rocking Chair

19th Century Rocking Chair by R.W. Winfield
England 1860's.
Robert W. Winfield is largely regarded as a metallic campaign furniture maker. Winfield, like many of his contemporaries, sought to establish a new design style that could represent the quickly changing times in which he lived. With any design assessment of this progressive chair, it is clear to see why Winfield was considered a visionary by his Fleet Street rivals,
and ultimately exhibited this work of tubular metal in the Great Exhibition of 1851. This steel, brass and leather 19th Century rocking chair is a spectacular work of design, enabling the owner in a matter of minutes to quickly disassemble the chair and move the 'campaign' onwards. The supple leather is padded over a gliding wood slatted frame, allowing the chair to progressively float forward as the chair rocks. If you have any ambition to
own the perfect rocking chair, you need not look any further.
