Jugendstil Settee with Ebony, Birch and Mother-of-Pearl Inlay

About the Item

A solid mahogany loveseat with ebony, birch and mother-of-pearl inlays, this piece is part of a suit which included the aforementioned Armchairs. Created at the beginning of the twentieth century, the design is the Swedish cousin of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's designs in Scotland or Gustav Stickley's designs in the United States. Mission, Arts and Crafts, Liberty, Jugendstil, Secession and Art Nouveau were all expressions of the same aesthetics which dominated the art and design world from 1900 until the start of the First World War.
