'Naïve's Fiancé' Cabinet by Taher Chemirik, 'Interior Treasures' Collection

About the Item

A bejeweled masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, ‘The Nai¨ve’s Fiancé’ is the masculine alter ego of ‘The Nai¨ve’. 'From the beginning, I imagined a pair of cabinets, I always have a story behind each creation', admits Taher Chemirik, even as his work manages to be thoroughly contemporary. Chemirik was named by Time one of the world’s most influential designers in 2007 for his jewelry signature designs using oversized links, drop-like petals, and ebony wood. Three of his pieces are included in the permanent collection of the Muse´e des Arts De´coratifs. 'In my jewelry, I use Fine stones, gold, and silver, but also wood, coral, and hard stones. I like to mix materials in my furniture as well, in particular ones that defy time and are in line with the tradition of the decorative arts, brass, wood, and hard stones.' ‘The Fiance´’ is a knight in a parade outfit, strict in his structure, angular, and anchored on his feet, yet lyrical with his decoration of flowers and moss agate stones. His attire shows a fantastic and imaginative side that resembles a Tim Burton character. When opened, his fragile side is revealed, flanks of wood with brass screws show the sewn wounds and traces of combat, like the holes in his brass-plated steel armour. This exquisite cabinet wears a guipure costume made of copper and brass flowers, as well as Mahogany wood roundels and rectangles. Each of them were sculpted individually. Mainly drop-like, some with a flat back, the brass and copper flowers sometimes have a polished, mirrored effect obtained from galvanization. Others were brushed and others distressed with a Hammer. Some were given a pink or blue effect using fire. These different finishing make the piece even more lyrical. A graduate of the E´cole Nationale Supe´rieure des Arts De´coratifs de Paris (ENSAD), jewelry designer Taher Chemirik has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious fashion labels, including Chloe´, Herme's, Balenciaga, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Roger Vivier. With the "Interior Treasures" ("Bijoux d'Inte´rieur") furniture collection exclusively produced and sold by Galerie BSL, Chemirik reveals the entire extent of his talent, that identifies him as a poet and architect of the object. Each piece is unique, handmade in Paris in Fine and timeless materials, such as brass, copper and rare hard stones. His works have the beauty of a contemporary sculpture, dense as well as sensual, refined and dramatic. Their strong presence vouches for the panache of an artist who expresses himself in volume, in tune with the scale of jewelry as well as with pieces with larger dimensions. 'The Nai¨ve's Fiance´ is a signed, unique piece.
