Superb Louis XVI Commode, Stamped "J. Manser", France c. 1770
About the Item
A very fine Louis XVI period Commode, with intricate inlaid designs of exotic wood, and stamped inside one upper drawer "J MANSER" & "JME". French in origin, and dating from the third quarter of the 1700s.
Jacques Manser: Ebeniste 1763, working in Paris till his death in 1780.
The commode's body with drawers in a 3-short over 2-long arrangement, featuring intricate inlaid designs and borders throughout, and with canted corners.
The frame mounted with its original conforming marble top, and resting atop four tapering square legs with inlaid patterns.
The focal point a fine inlaid trophic crest of "Victory", with shield, sheath of arrows, & various weaponry surrounded by a floral wreath. The execution of the design is of the highest caliber, and finely-preserved.
