Satinwood Writing Table by Maple & Co., Paris, c. 1900
Fine Quality Satinwood Writing Table by "Maple & Co., Paris";
with five drawers and two tirettes, Paris, Late 19th / Early 20th Century.
48 inches long (+ two 12 inch slides) x 26 inches deep x 30 inches high
Notes: The desk bears a "Maple and Co., Paris" mark in the right drawer; Maple and Company was a British manufacturing and retail firm that peaked at the turn of the 19th / 20th Century. A branch office was also opened in Paris; this desk is particularly interesting as it was made for the Paris affiliate with both English and French characteristics. The tirettes and the ball feet are typically French features, while the use of Satinwood and Satinwood shell inlay motifs are more commonly found on English furniture.
