Pedestal Dining, Library or Center Hall Table
About the Item
This pedestal dinning/library table utilizes reclaimed lumber from the barns of Pennsylvania's Mennonite community, harvested and re-purposed. The lumber was cut by hand from Old Growth forests in the 16th century. It was specifically cut for the threshing floor of the barn. After 400 years of continues use the barns were replaced and the lumber collected and sold.
The breadboard ends assist in preventing movement, while the individual planks are secured with hidden splines and supports underneath. The wood has been cleaned and polished with a wire brush and then finished with an oil based poly coating.
The piece pictured was utilized as a center hall table where its extreme rustic surface was an esthetic choice. However, the same wood can be sanded to a somewhat smoother finish exposing a few blemishes, knots and divets, yet more appropriate as a dining surface.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Each Table is different in terms of the wood, it's degree of rustication, color, and texture, knots, peg holes, etc. The best pieces with the greatest amount of character are selected.
