About the Item

The large scale and detail of this large charcoal on paper moon by American artist Eric Nash is beautiful, transfixing, lifelike and impressive. The paper size is 40"x70", it is floated on linen backing and framed in a white wooden frame making the overall size 78 3/4" wide x 46 7/8"High. Eric Nash Using mood, light and shadow, Nashâ??s work creates unique yet universal and iconic images which bring the peripheral into focus. Almost like key frames in a film, he creates stories or moments evocative to everyone. Without pretense or gimmicks and with genuine skill, Nashâ??s work is simple and direct yet rich, moody and mysterious with clear roots in Noir Cinema, Pop Art and 20th Century Realism. It reflects his lifelong fascination with the open road and his earliest influences of Edward Hopper, Ed Rushca, Cindy Sherman, Gerhard Richter and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Background: A life long artist, at age four he first began university sponsored art classes. He went on to receive a BFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on a four year scholarship in a program developed by professors with direct links to original Bauhaus members who had come to Chicago before WWII. After completing his education, Nash worked as an art director for large international ad agencies while continuing to paint. As with many artists who worked in advertising such as Warhol, Hopper and Ruscha, it gave him a clear sense of the power of simple visual iconography. As his art career grew, he relocated to Los Angeles in 2000 where he began exploring his lifelong fascination with the city, its unique landscape and iconic status. His original studio was in downtown Hollywood followed by Venice Beach where he first came to popular attention. Nashâ??s current studio is in a Mid-Century Donald Wexler designed home in Palm Springs, CA. Collectors and Press: Nash includes collectors as diverse as Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Jerry and Linda Bruckheimer, Orlando Bloom, Mena Suvari, Hillary Duff and James Ellroy as well as numerous leading Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. He also has collectors across the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. Curiously, in 2009 his work was the only art stolen by Hollywoodâ??s notorious â??Bling Ringâ?? during a break-in at Orlando Bloomâ??s Hollywood Hills home. In the media, he has recently been featured in The Los Angeles Times, Travel + Leisure, Elle, laiamyours, Exit Magazine (UK), C Magazine, California Home, Hi-Desert Star, The Desert Sun, Outlook Magazine, Tinsel Tokyo and LA Fashion among many others. Exhibitions: Since 2000, Nash has had multiple solo shows in Los Angeles as well as in Chicago, San Francisco and Palm Springs. He has also been featured in countless group and museum shows across the US since his earliest days as an artist. His work is currently represented in galleries in Los Angeles, Paris, France and Palm Springs.
