Gestural Abstract Impasto Canvas of a Bather

This canvas has a tremendous presence and is of a bather emerging from the water. It is charcoal and impasto oil applied in a very gestural manner. The palette is very muted.
It is a piece that was painted over a previous canvas , you can see the head of the first figure in the lower face / neck / chest area of this figure.
It was done by an African American female artist from Philadelphia in the 1930's-40's. It has been newly framed.
